The Historic Columbia River Highway is the oldest scenic highway in the United States.  Work began in 1913 and it was completed in 1922.  In addition to rock work,  you can drive to see a tunnel at Oneonta Gorge, drive to Vista House or walk or bicycle to the Mosier Twin Tunnels.
