     The name Owyhee is an outdated spelling of the word "Hawaii". In 1818, Hawaiian natives, brought to the Oregon Country by fur-trading ships, were lost in the Snake River Valley...trying to become fur hunters. They set traps as far north as "Salmon River, Idaho" down to "Scotts Dam", Oregon in the "Wild Owyhee Canyon" on the "Wild Owyhee River".
     Today, boaters motor Idaho's "Deer Flat Wildlife Preserve", and Oregon cowboys (father and son) herd cows to "Cow Creek". Even the "Goslings on the Owyhee Reservoir" live a quiet, safe life.  Flowers enchant your drive "Going to Owyhee Dam"; "Western Prairie Clover" dapples the landscape.
     Quick, grab the camera for more Owyhee Canyon photographs when you first see the tall, majestic "Pillars of Rome"  an occasional lizard at "Succor Creek" or a surprise cabin in the midst of "Leslie Gulch" ...all of which serve to give you confidence that none of the ill fates of the past will become YOUR fortune.
